  • January Meeting & Club Newsletter 2016 National Edition

    January 23rd 2017 Club Meeting.

Tonight! Is the regular monthly meeting of the Geelong Bottle and Collectables Club and there is plenty to discuss. With the National being a financial success and the sterling efforts of Alan, Paul and the team involved with the Bunnings barbecue days the club finds itself in rude financial health. So now the fun part! Suggestions are needed for how we use our hard earned funds to provide even more value to all members. Please feel free to share any thoughts tonight or at future meetings or just casually mention any ideas you may have to any of the committee.

    Meeting January 23rd 2017
    From 7.30 pm
    Upstairs, Barwon River Pavilion.
    under the James Harrison Bridge,
near corner Barrabool Road & High Street, Belmont.

    Newsletter.

The latest club newsletter has landed and it is a bumper 20 page edition. Editor Cam has really outdone himself this time with a brilliant pictorial presentation of the National Show.

    2016 National and beyond.
    Hello everyone!
WOW is too short a word isn’t it?
The champagne was nice after Mondays meeting!!

Saturday Morning Geelong National Show Main Hall
Saturday Morning Geelong National Show Main Hall
Have just run the best national ever?  Would like you thoughts on that one!
Because many of you have been to many more nationals than me.
As we try to wrap up a huge event (and remembering full reports to come later)
we need your feedback for our report; positive and constructive comments welcome.
Remembering also that this is a one off event size wise.
Any future shows will most probably be in the one building plus maybe the open shed stalls.
They will be a hell of a lot easier to run using our proven formula in this venue.
Financial results looking better than dreamed for but standby on that one.
Things you can buy but be quick
Uniforms:  will pass on orders to Noel.
Chas Cole glasses 15 left at $10 each:  David has them in stock.
David Hobday Glass Plates $45:  18 of a once only limited run of 20 available by order: Cam.
    Next meeting Monday November 28th
BBQ at David and Hany’s house.
5.30 pre dinner.  BBQ 6.00 pm.   Meeting 8.00 pm.
No latest finds as 2016 tallys being calculated now.
Stand by for invitations later in month
    Future shows to be discussed
We are due to run one day event (Friday/Saturday) 2018 and Victorian State Show 2020 (Friday/Saturday/Sunday)
Besides revisiting alternative venues for any possible future shows,  what are your thoughts? Do we go annual?
If so cycle would be three x one day events and every 4th year the Victorian State show?  Drop the Market days?
I only ask now as we need to book the date ASAP if we are even considering a one day event 2017.
    cheers in collecting
    a tired but happy David
  • Geelong Club Meeting Monday October 24th 2016.

7.30 pm for an 8pm start. Upstairs, Barwon River Pavilion. under the James Harrison Bridge, near corner Barrabool Road & High Street, Belmont.

I wonder what we will discuss?! Should be plenty of latest purchases on display after the weekend.

The National show proved to be a huge success. A really monumental achievement for our club. The reviews were overwhelmingly positive from those in attendance, even those from warmer climes who weren’t quite expecting our little dip back in to winter!

We still have a couple of Bunnings barbecues scheduled this year. And of course our next meeting (November 28th) will be our end of year BBQ and breakup at David & Hany’s.

Plus champagne and celebrations at tonights meeting! See you there!

  • Social Fun at 2016 National Show

It’s not all business for Traders at the 2016 National Bottle and Collectables Show.

AJs Bar at Geelong Showgrounds side view
AJs Bar. Scene for this years National Show social events

There will be exquisite items on display. Loads of goodies on the swap and sell tables. A high quality Saturday night auction. All the things you expect at a major Collectables fair. But it’s the social side of the National show that really draws in collectors. This year having the onsite venue (AJs Bar) for the end of day winding down is a huge bonus. Of course, collectors are a lot like fishermen. There will be plenty of tales of rarities that got away. Or items that have better colour, condition, size and desirability than anything imaginable. Not that I’m saying fibs will be told but memory is a funny beast. With a little social lubricant added to the mix some stories tending towards the tall may be told.

For Traders and Exhibitors this years social events include (all held at AJs Bar, right near the show hall): Friday night welcoming barbecue and drinks from 6.30 pm; Saturday evening finger food and drinks from 4.30 pm with a roast meal to follow from 5.30 pm.

These will be nights to remember. And with so many International and Interstate visitors making their way to Geelong some new friendships forged. See you there!
