    From the President:

Hello Geelong Bottle & Collectables Club Members and Committee,

Firstly a big thanks to Eric for his presentation on the history of drinking water in Geelong at the last meeting. Thank you Eric!

As usual bring along your great finds to discuss at the next meeting on Monday 24th.

BUT the Meeting will mainly concentrate on the lead up to our show and our call for volunteers on how you can all help!

The usual setup and pack up helpers, door staff and display security plus numerous little jobs.

Any promotion club members can manage (just telling friends would be great!) but here is  just a sample of what’s happening in the background!

    MARKETING
I have put up 11 signs, Allan 5, Eric 4 and have five more printed with new panels applied ready to go up this weekend in some prominent sites.
A4 flyers are starting to go up around Geelong shops.
2,500 four to a page leaflets have been in shops with 500 in stock for last two weeks
Facebook and Bottle forum promotions are being pushed along but if you use any social media please Like, Share and Post about the show!

    ENTRIES & LAYOUT

Layout is easy as plenty of room and 1 meter square carpet squares and graph paper with 1cm to 1 meter grids making it a dream!

Graham Blake will do a final copy once my draft is finalised.

Paul’s drop box data at time of writing shows at moment we are only using half of our 120 tables!

SO GEELONG MEMBERS PLEASE GET YOUR ENTRIES IN MONDAY!

Entry form and information sheet can be found here – http://www.geelongbottleandcollectables.club/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/2018GeelongShowSchedule.pdf

Things are progressing well but still plenty for the committee to discuss in the next two weeks.

    Cheers David

  • October Meeting and November Bus Trip

    Hello Collectors.
A quick reminder that the next meeting of the Geelong Bottle and Collectables Club is on Monday October 23rd from 7:30 PM. (It’s one of those tricky months with 5 Mondays so don’t come on the 30th!!)

Bring along your finds and maybe a few things from your collection to tell us about.

Our bus trip to Camberwell Market, Waverley Antique Bazaar and Richard Goldsworthy’s incredible collection was a huge success. Comments like “mind boggling” “too big to take it all in” “fantastic to see, thankyou…” were heard at Richard’s house.

Sad if you missed it… BUT you have a chance to be on our next Bus trip to Lake Goldsmith Steam Rally. see Graham Tomkin’s collection and visit Beaufort Big Garage sale shop on the way home.  This trip will be on Saturday November 4th. Leaving club rooms at  7.30 AM. Trip and BBQ are free. It will cost you $15 entry to the steam rally

    RSVP to David 0419434306

Our November 27th meeting will be as normal at Belmont pavilion and standby for news on a club BBQ date at David and Hany’s.

Cover of the 2017 January February GBACC Newsletter

The latest Geelong Bottle & Collectables Club newsletter has been distributed. Once again it is a great production packed with quality pictures and stories.

The most important feature this edition is a wonderful tribute to club pioneer and indeed one of the doyens of collecting, the late Dot Votava.

Other stories cover the recent Drysdale festival of glass (including a surprise discovery); further discussion on the Emil Hafner medallion display from the National show; Spirit of Anzac Centenary experience at Geelong; the Club’s February “road” meeting at the Queenscliffe Maritime Museum and the Finds of the Year.

Geelong Bottle & Collectables Club AGM

Bollington Hop Beer Geelong Zeppelin Amethyst Large Sized Cordial Bottle
Bollington Hop Beer Geelong Zeppelin Amethyst Large Sized Cordial Bottle

    Monday 27th March 2017, 7.30 pm
    Upstairs, Barwon River Pavilion.
    under the James Harrison Bridge,
near corner Barrabool Road & High Street, Belmont.

As we approach our 2017 AGM and my eighth year as GB&CC President I have talked about whether having a President for 8 years is a positive or not. I have also talked about the need for succession planning and why we should aim to have a younger person as a Vice President and other younger people on the committee. I have indicated that I would continue 2016 as President to see the National through and consider the future after that. After some thought and as long as the club is happy in the knowledge that I will be on 3 months leave in winter I will be happy to re-nominate. If someone else wants to have a go and nominate for President I would be happy to nominate for the Vice President role to help them.

Allan and Noel both have taken the treasurer and VP roles on a “if no one else will do it I will” basis as they will not see the club left in need. Noel Dawson is relinquishing the VP position to create a vacancy and we need more committee members. His ability to fill in as acting meeting chair and do the jobs others can’t do on committee is truly appreciated.

Please consider nominating for a committee role.

What a great evening Noel organised at the Queenscliff Maritime Museum with Peter Ferrier as guest speaker.

Our club funds have never been healthier and very soon we will start to plan our next show for 2018 and look at alternative venues.

Make sure we are all financial members for the big year ahead.

We can now pay by EFT as an option for those who can’t attend meetings . Cheque or cash on a meeting night or to David or Allan is still OK.

Member recruitment in 2016 was great but keep being positive about GB&CC and encouraging new members.

    Cheers in Collecting.

  • Appraisals Day at Drysdale with ABCR Auctions

    Drysdale Courthouse Museum Building
    Drysdale Courthouse Museum Building

After great success last year club members Paul and David Bruce will again be hosting an appraisals day at Drysdale this Sunday (12th February 2017).

Last years event proved to be very interesting and attracted over 70 people bringing in all sorts of bottles. (Many good local ones amongst them!) Two bottles from the day were auctioned later in the year by ABCR Auctions and achieved prices well beyond expectations.

The appraisals day is in conjunction with the Drysdale Festival of Glass which runs throughout February.

  • January Meeting & Club Newsletter 2016 National Edition

    January 23rd 2017 Club Meeting.

Tonight! Is the regular monthly meeting of the Geelong Bottle and Collectables Club and there is plenty to discuss. With the National being a financial success and the sterling efforts of Alan, Paul and the team involved with the Bunnings barbecue days the club finds itself in rude financial health. So now the fun part! Suggestions are needed for how we use our hard earned funds to provide even more value to all members. Please feel free to share any thoughts tonight or at future meetings or just casually mention any ideas you may have to any of the committee.

    Meeting January 23rd 2017
    From 7.30 pm
    Upstairs, Barwon River Pavilion.
    under the James Harrison Bridge,
near corner Barrabool Road & High Street, Belmont.

    Newsletter.

The latest club newsletter has landed and it is a bumper 20 page edition. Editor Cam has really outdone himself this time with a brilliant pictorial presentation of the National Show.
